About

Mark Hulme is a Vice President of Marx|Okubo, and manages and directs day-to-day regional operations in the West region, including team structure and project scheduling, the foundation of quality control. He is focused on business development and is continually engaged in proposal writing and client/contract negotiations. As an active participant in leadership development of the firm, Mark provides ongoing mentorship of staff at all levels. He also performs as a subject matter expert in accessibility, waterproofing and other topic areas, presenting seminars and educational sessions to students and architects for accredited continuing education. In addition, Mark is active with the firm’s accessibility group in expanding these services in the region.

Mark performs accessibility inspections, architectural consulting, property condition assessments, and owner’s representation-related services for clients of all scales. For over two decades, he has been involved in diverse construction and architectural projects, including retail properties, offices and interiors, as well as community college and K-12 educational facilities. As a Certified Access Specialist (CASp), Mark has conducted CASp and other detailed accessibility reviews of higher education, office, public housing, shopping center, hotel, and market-rate multifamily properties for a variety of owner, developer, investor and architect clients.

Prior to joining Marx|Okubo, he served as a project architect for a Los Angeles-based architectural firm, where he worked on construction document preparation, project management, specifications writing, governmental plan processing and construction administration.

Mark studied at the University of Southern California where he received Bachelor’s degrees in Architecture and Communications as well as a Master’s degree in building sciences with a focus on environmental controls systems. He also completed executive education programs on accessibility and universal design at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. In addition to being a Certified Access Specialist in California (CASp), Mark is certified in the built environment through the Accessibility Professionals Association (APAC-BE), is a LEED Accredited Professional with the BD+C specialty, continues to be a longtime member of the American Institute of Architects (AIA), and served on the board of the Certified Access Specialist Institute.
