Course Description:
There is no grandfather clause for places of public accommodation or for public entities under the ADA. Most existing facilities used by the public must be made accessible at a high level for people with disabilities. This course will analyze the specific obligations, exceptions, and examples of methods that can be used to meet the existing facility requirements efficiently and effectively.
Learning Objectives
- Review key provisions of the ADA’s Title I, II, and III regulations and standards that mandate changes to existing facilities to provide access for people with disabilities.
- Study the regulatory language and detailed obligations that have the most impact in existing facilities on the facility owners and people with disabilities.
- Understand the exceptions to the basic requirements for existing facilities and how to analyze potential methods to achieve accessibility without physical changes.
- Compare some of the ADA’s obligations and exceptions to selected other federal regulations, and to state and local building codes.
Online registration will close at 6 pm CT on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.
