2026 APA Spring Webinar Sessions

This seminar explores the provisions for accessible means of egress (AMOE) systems in the IBC. Defined as a continuous and unobstructed way of egress travel from any accessible point in a building to a public way, the accessible means of egress must also comply with the applicable provisions of ICC A117.1. The relationship of AMOE requirements to the 2010 ADA Standard for Accessible Pre-planning, notification, design options and reasoning for the requirements are also addressed.

This session will give an overview of the design requirements for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) section 504 requirements under the Rehabilitation Act that affect most all Federally funded housing projects. Key regulatory requirements affecting construction will be highlighted. Most of the session’s discussion will focus on HUD’s “deeming notice” that permits state and local governments to align their housing efforts more closely with requirements of the 2010 ADA Standards if the more stringent provisions of the 504 regulations are maintained. Each of the provisions cited in the notice will be reviewed with an emphasis on the critical differences from the 2010 ADA Standards.
